Association Hay Toumour for the Development of Zagora (AHTD) was born four years ago in the region of the Valley of the Draa in the city of Zagora with the primary objective of improving the quality of life of marginalized women and children.

AHTD is developing a community program in the Hay Toumour neighborhood and the nearby rural communities of Aroumiyat.

AHTD has been incorporated as a non-profit organization founded by volunteers.  There are five women teachers, one sewing teacher, four male physical trainers, three female physical trainers, ten field trip monitors (five men/five women). Several other members organize art and theater activities.  Bousekkine Mbarek is President of the Association.

Thanks to dues and donations, we are renting the space in which our actitivites take place for 50 euros a month.  We are, however, lacking in most basic equipment (books, paper, pencils etc.) to help our community.

The goals of the association are:

Encourage preschool tutoring to reinforce primary and secondary education.
Reduce drop-out rate  among at-risk girls and boys by extracurricular reinforcement.
Reduce illiteracy rate among marginalized  women.
Improve buying power of women by creating craft studios with traditional designs
Encourage social development  through sports and other extracurricular activities.
